New Wave™ Artist Palette Questions:
Where are your art palettes made?
Our art palettes are made in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania by the Amish. The Amish have the reputation for providing only the highest quality wood products.
Why do you use hard white maple for New Wave Artist Palettes?
While there are differing opinions out there, as is true with anything, we found hard white maple to be as strong if not stronger than birch or oak, which many other artist palettes are made from. We also found the grain in maple to be less distracting than birch or oak. Plus, we like offering you something different.

Do you make palettes for both right handed and left handed painters?
Absolutely! Left handed artists will be happy to know that we treat them equally at New Wave! If you paint with your left hand you will want to purchase a palette held in the right hand. If you paint with your right hand you will want to purchase a palette held in the left hand.

What type of finish do you apply to your finished New Wave Artist Palettes?
Our refined satin finish on our finished artist palettes is the most advanced wood finishing solution research has to offer. The finish is cutting-edge environmentally and artist friendly, formulated specifically for wood products used in our everyday lives. The finish is: resistant to water & most standard artist solvents and mediums; mar and scratch resistant; UV protected; non-yellowing; crack resistant amid standard aging; smooth to the touch; and freezer safe. Our finished New Wave Artist Palettes use a synthetic finish that is not available in the retail market. That is why it is the best synthetic finish available to you.
How long will my finished New Wave Artist Palette last?
It depends upon how well you care for your artist palette. We have been using a few palettes for close to a decade.
Can I take my palettes outdoors?
YES! If you purchased a finished artist palette (synthetic finish), the finish is UV protected and non-yellowing over time. If you purchased an unfinished artist palette and finished the palette with our New Wave Palette Finish (organic finish) get outside and paint! As each new layer is applied, the oil molecules of the older layer cross-link with the newest layer to facilitate chemical bonding. This process improves our Palette Finish’s flexibility as the wood responds to seasonal changes in moisture content and allows the finish to withstand wear and aging from frequent use.
New Wave Palette Finish™ Questions:
Is New Wave Palette Finish the same finish used on ‘Finished New Wave Artist Palettes?’
No, New Wave Palette Finish is an organic option for those who prefer to finish their own art palette. Our finished New Wave Artist Palettes use a synthetic finish that is not available in the retail market. New Wave Palette Finish is the best organic finish available, while our satin finish is the best synthetic finish available.
Can I use New Wave Palette Finish on ANY artist palette?
Absolutely. We suggest using a New Wave Artist Palette (of course!), but New Wave Palette Finish can be applied to any wooden artist palette. One 4 fl oz can be used for approximately 2.7 Square feet (includes front and back), or all New Wave™ Artist Palettes.
Can I stain my artist palette if I plan to finish it with New Wave Palette Finish?
Yes. Be sure to apply your stain prior to beginning the Palette Finish application process, and please make sure your stain is 100% dry.
Where is your Tung Oil from and where is New Wave Palette Finish manufactured?
Our Tung Oil is always purchased from the Orient, where the Tung Tree grows in abundance. The Orient’s Tung Oil has a consistent light amber color and an appealing aroma...cheaper grades of Tung Oil can be found in different parts of the world, but we don’t like the smell and neither would you! The raw oil is then shipped to the USA where our formula is cooked, mixed and bottled.
Where else can I buy New Wave Palette Finish?
Currently, you can only buy New Wave Palette Finish from www.NewWaveArt.com.
Why do you only sell a 4 fl oz can of New Wave Palette Finish?
The 4 fl oz can is the perfect size for applying the correct amount of coats on all of our unfinished New Wave Artist Palettes. Because of its sensitivity to oxygen which will cause it to jell over time, especially with large volumes of air in a container, we have packaged an amount that is ideal with very little residual material left after finishing your palette. We do not want to sell you much more than you will use for your initial application process. The shelf life after being opened is a function of how well you protect the residual from oxygen. Please see our storage suggestions below.
How do I store my left over New Wave Palette Finish?
New Wave Palette Finish should not be stored or used near any heat or ignition source. Be sure to place the can away from children and animals, as it is harmful when ingested. If your remaining New Wave Palette Finish will not be used soon, please decant into a smaller container with a tight seal. Make sure you screw the lid on extra tight. Then flip the can so that it is laying flat on its lid, bottom side up. New Wave Palette Finish will act as an extra sealant around the lid threads, which will prevent any further air from entering the can.
How do I properly apply New Wave Palette Finish to my unfinished artist palette?
This sentence will take you to a pdf document that explains the application process.
Also, feel free to view our video about New Wave Palette Finish on our Home page.
How often should I apply touch up or re-application coats of New Wave Palette Finish to my artist palette?
How often you will need to re-coat the palette depends on how often you use the palette. Over time with repeated cleaning of paint off the surface, you will notice that the palette will appear dull and dry looking. This will be the time to re-oil the palette.
How do I dispose of my unused New Wave Palette Finish?
Please dispose of the Palette Finish and the can according to the laws and regulations of your local municipality.
